Rich Onion Gravy
Time: Prep 10 mins, Cook 20 mins
Dietary: Vegan
Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion, finely sliced
- 1 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 tsp marmite or yeast extract
- 250mls hot water
- 1tbsp plain white flour
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method:
- Gently fry the onion in the sunflower oil until soft, but not browned. Take off the heat and set aside.
- Place the marmite in a measuring jug and pour in the hot water, stir until the marmite has dissolved.
- Reheat the onions and stir in the flour. Stir continuously over a gentle heat to ‘cook’ the flour.
- On a medium heat, slowly add the hot water and marmite, stirring all the time, and then simmer for a few minutes until the gravy has thickened.
- Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
